Purpose of Office of the Registrar Ombudsman

The Office of the Registrar Ombudsman assists with issues, complaints and concerns from students, faculty and staff regarding registration, enrollment, and academic records. The purpose of the role is to serve as a confidential, informal, and independent resource for issues such as registration processes and procedures. The goal is to assist students with their questions, develop possible options and solutions, provide students the appropriate campus resources, and address student concerns. 

  • Try to help solve problems and conflicts in informal process
  • Assist with claims of unfair treatment or errors
  • Understands established policies and procedures at Texas A&M University
  • Will be a neutral listener and impartial
  • Work with the subject matter experts for answers, and if possible, solutions
  • Cannot promise the process will result in the desired outcome
  • Cannot override decisions or the authority of other University officials
  • Decline to participate in a formal grievance process
  • It is the goal of the ombudsman to keep the individual requests confidential. Please be aware that while assisting, it may be necessary to release information to the appropriate offices. 
  • According to state law, all university employees are required to report certain incidents such as sexual harassment, sexual assault, dating violence, or stalking.  Information may also be released in the response to a subpoena.
  • The ombudsman may share updates to the Office of the Registrar in order to provide suggestions or trends in order to improve the student’s experience.

Please include the desired outcome. Confidentiality is not guaranteed in emails. We recommend that you do not send sensitive information or material by email.

Bill Taylor is the Office of the Registrar Ombudsman. He has worked at the University for over 20 years and has much experience working with students, staff, and faculty.
