Grade Distribution, GPA Distribution, and Cumulative GPA Reports

The Office of the Registrar makes these reports available for the five most recent years. Reports are produced using “point in time” data that is collected after completion of the respective grading period. As a result, grades submitted late and grade changes after final grading is complete are not reflected in the data.

Reports become available on the following schedule:

Grade Distribution:

The Grade Distribution Report represents a statistical analysis of grades given in each course and section. For courses with more than one section, the report also provides totals for all sections. Department and college totals reflect composite grade distribution.

In the interests of FERPA (Family Education Rights and Privacy Act) and the protection of student privacy, course sections with an enrollment of less than five are not included in the reports.

The data is reported in both numeric and percentage figures and includes a calculation of the average GPA. GPA calculations are truncated to the third decimal point.

Some programs have two reports, one for undergraduate and graduate courses and another for professional courses.

The GPA Distribution Report provides a statistical analysis of undergraduate student achievement for a specific term within each of the academic colleges and for the university as a whole. Figures for student achievement within specific GPA ranges are reported by classification and gender. Composite calculations include mean, median, and quartiles. GPA calculations reflected in this report are truncated to the third decimal point.

Cumulative GPA:

The Cumulative GPA Report provides a statistical analysis of cumulative achievement for students across their entire undergraduate career. Figures for student achievement within specific GPA ranges are reported by classification and gender. Composite calculations include mean, median, and quartiles. GPA calculations reflected in this report are truncated to the third decimal point.
