Fall 2023 Registration Reminders:

Add/Drop registration for students and staff
  • Last day for schedule changes is August 25, 2023.
  • Students and staff can make permissible schedule changes during the Add/Drop period.  Permissible actions include adding and dropping courses from a current schedule (student must still retain a Fall schedule).
  • Students can NOT drop all classes starting August 21st.  Add/Drop does NOT permit students to drop or be dropped from all classes on or after the first day of fall classes, as this is considered a Withdrawal (see Withdrawals below).
  • After the Add/Drop period, deans/designees should be contacted to add and drop courses for students through the official census date, September 6, 2023, at 5 p.m.
Q-Drop
  • After the official census date, if a student wants to drop a course, they will request a Q-Drop.
  • Students can submit requests through the online Q-Drop request system in Howdy on their My Dashboard.
  • The advisor can review the pending request in their Q-Drop workflow on the Howdy Dashboard.
  • Courses in shortened parts of term will have different Q-Drop deadlines than courses in the standard term, so advisors need to review and process their pending requests regularly.
Withdrawals
  • Students may submit online Withdraw requests prior to the start of the semester to drop all courses and notify the university they are leaving.  Prior to the first class day a withdraw request will result in a “No Record” drop of all fall courses.
  • Effective August 21st, students wanting to drop all of their courses (resulting in zero hours) for the entire fall semester, should submit a withdraw request (withdrawal applies to an entire term and not just to a particular part of term).  Any courses already graded will not be affected by the withdraw.
  • Withdrawal Requests are submitted online from the My Dashboard tab in Howdy for dean’s approval (per the withdrawal process, as outlined in Student Rule 17).
    • If for any reason the withdrawal request must be initiated outside of the online process (such as with a military withdrawal), please ensure you notify Scholarships & Financial Aid at faid_attendance@tamu.edu in addition to the Registrar.  This will ensure we remain compliant with regulatory deadlines established by the U.S. Department of Education.
  • If an UG student withdraws before the end of the census date (5 p.m. on Sept. 6th), they will need to go through the admission process to be readmitted if/when they decide to return to Texas A&M, even if returning in the Spring 2024 semester.
  • If an UG student withdraws after the Fall 2023 census date, they will be able to pre-register for Spring 2024 courses, during their assigned pre-registration time slot, or open registration.
Refunds for Term Withdrawals and Dropped Courses
  • Withdrawals after census will result in W grades for in-progress courses, and courses with future start dates in the term will be “No Record” dropped.
  • For questions regarding tuition and fee adjustments, refunds, and the difference between dropping courses (but remaining enrolled) versus withdrawing (dropping all courses), please refer to Student Business Services’ Refund Policy for Withdrawals and Dropped Courses.
Submitting Add/Drop Requests
  • Add/Drop requests submitted up to the census date should go through the student’s dean/designee.
  • Online Add/Drop requests in Howdy should be limited to unique requests only, such as requests submitted before the respective deadline but not processed in time or requests to add a course after the census date, etc.
Registration after Census – If a student is not enrolled in any courses by the census date, then the department will need to complete the Request for Registration After Census form requiring a dean’s signature to register the student for Fall courses.
  • Confirm student has completed Howdy Checklist items to prevent delays in processing.
  • Corrective registration action needed after census will require an add/drop request reviewed and approved by the student’s dean/designee.  It is strongly encouraged that all registration-related matters be addressed by the official census, September 6th at 5 p.m.
  • Exceptions require approval from the student’s dean/designee and should be submitted using an Add/Drop request with sufficient justification included.  Add/Drop requests can be submitted using the online Add/Drop request system in Howdy.
